BMW says compact X-class vehicle creates new segment

BMW is claiming that its concept design for a new X1 model will create a new vehicle segment by blending the characteristics of a sports activity vehicle with a compact class car

The company says that the Concept X1 will be 108mm shorter than the current X3, at present the smallest of the X Class vehicles, and will have a wheelbase of 2,760mm.

The four-door car retains the lines of the other X Class vehicles, with a lot of emphasis on the lighting. Headlights have three-dimensional surrounds, which BMW says is an innovation.

BMW has sold 1.2 million X class vehicles since the introduction of the X5 in 1999. The X5 itself is already on its second generation model
